How to Grow Marijuana

How to Grow Marijuana

Here we will not go into specifics of the cultivation process itself, instead, we will reveal how to grow marijuana in general terms. The initial stage of successful cannabis cultivation at home is to select a strain. At Dutch Seeds Shop there is a broad range of varieties for you to grow in your house.

The stages of weed growth are the following from seed to harvest:

  1. Germination (5-10 days)
  2. Seedling (2-3 weeks)
  3. Vegetative (3-16 weeks)
  4. Flowering (8-11 weeks)

How to Choose Seeds to Grow Cannabis

If you prefer indoor growing, then you better choose compact weed varieties for growing well in a small room or box. If there is an opportunity and desire to plant weed outside (outdoor growing) in cold latitudes, then the best choice would be a strain of pot with a short flowering period.

When choosing cannabis seeds for growing and cultivating marijuana at home, you have to determine their 2 main characteristics:

  • The sex of the plants (regular or feminized);
  • The flowering type (autoflowering or photoperiod).

Feminized seeds always give birth to female cannabis plants. By the qualities (effect, smell, taste), such plants are significantly superior to regular ones.

Autoflowering strains will bloom faster. They are much easier to cultivate than photoperiod ones.

How to Grow Female Plants When You Have Regular Seeds

How to grow marijuana plants from regular seeds

Here is how to grow marijuana from regular seeds to female plants in an easy way. The sex of your weed can be changed to the female one by the following factors:

  • Humidity — Increased moisture levels will raise the chance of getting females;
  • Nitrogen — The soil for females should be generously enriched with nitrogen;
  • Temperature — The temperature should be reduced within the permissible temperature range for your particular strain;
  • Light — Expose young weed to 16/8 hours of light/darkness and use the blue spectrum raise.

Important tip! Any changes in the environment must be carried out no later than the third pair of leaves appears. The duration of the transformation will be no longer than 3 weeks.

How to Grow Marijuana at Home: Easy Way

Outdoor cultivation of marijuana is easier than the indoor one. Properly prepared soil with simple fertilizers made in advance (manure, vermicompost, etc.), a well-lit area, generous watering, lime acidity adjustment and simple maintenance are what you need to grow weed outdoors. However, if you would like to plant marijuana at home, this is how to grow great plants ever in an easy way.

The properly-organized home growing of marijuana allows you to get year-round flowering and grow wonderful plants that do not depend on any climate changes.

To begin weed cultivation we will need:

  • The seeds of those varieties that are suitable for indoor cultivation;
  • Soil and special fertilizers chosen according to the strain;
  • Containers with drainage holes, saucers, and trays;
  • Equipment for creating the desired microclimate (dampness, temperature, ventilation) in a room or grow box;
  • Lighting devices (LED lamps are the best).

The first step is the seed germination. The secret of an experienced grower is that weaker plants are removed at the seedling stage.

When organizing the grow space before planting the seeds you need to get lamps. It’s better to use LED lamps. Choose those that have two light modes — violet-blue for better growth, and red for flowering and budding.

How to Grow Marijuana Indoors with Soil

How to grow marijuana indoors with soil

Today, soil for growing weed can be bought at a lot of stores. An excellent option would be peat or humus-based soil mixture with the addition of perlite. Keep the range of pH level around 5.5-6.5. Make sure the soil contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. They are very important nutrients. Smaller amounts of calcium, sulfur, and iron should be present too.

How to grow good marijuana plants with no fertilizer in your home? How easy is it? Is it even feasible? The answer is yes, you can do it, and it’s not too hard if your strain is an autoflower. However, even in this case, you should add fertilizers for bigger yields, unless you are on a tight budget.

For photoperiod cultivars this will not be enough, so be prepared to fertilize during all the stages. Stimulants of growth, root formation and flowering will also not be superfluous. All this can be easily found on specialized websites.

How to Use Light When You Grow Marijuana in Your House

When buying LED grow lights, the instructions should be given to you. But if none provided, then this is how to determine the safe distance to the lamp when you grow indoor marijuana. Put your hand under the lamp. The distance at which the skin on the hand feels comfortably warm is the best. Depending on the model, there will be some difference. On average, the top of a cannabis plant is placed 13″ (33cm) from 1W bulbs and 19″ (47cm) from 3W or 5W bulbs.

If the grow room has low ceilings, then the top can be removed by pinching (trimming) to gradually form a wide crown. Removing the twigs above the 5 pairs of leaves can produce a more branched, stocky plant.

How many hours of light do weed plants need?

Your weed should get at least 16 hours of light during the seedling and vegetative stages.

12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness (with no light at all) are preferable at the flowering stage.

How to Set Temperature When You Grow Marijuana

Marijuana how to grow. Temperature

The most comfortable temperature range for cannabis is 25 to 30°C (77 to 86℉), though this may vary depending on the genetic makeup and growth behavior of a given strain. Mostly, it is under these conditions that all the vital processes of a plant occur the best way; ie photosynthesis, gas exchange, and absorption of nutrients work as they should. Also, at this temperature, excess dampness evaporates well from the leaves’ surface.

If for some reason you have to keep the temperature only at the extreme values, it is recommended to choose the seeds of cold- or heat-resistant cannabis strains.

  • At the seedling stage, the temperatures should be around 20-25°C (68-77°F) when lights are on and around 16-20°C (61-68°F) lights are off.
  • Starting at the vegetation period, you should raise the daytime temperature to 25-28°C  (72-82°F).
  • At the flowering stage, the temperature should be around 25°C (68-77°F) and a few degrees lower 2 weeks before the harvest.

How to Set Humidity Level When You Grow Marijuana

  • At the seedling stage, the humidity levels should reach 65-70%.
  • Starting at the vegetation period, you can lower humidity levels by 5% weekly.
  • At the flowering stage, the humidity levels need to be around 45% and even lower when the end of flowering draws nearer.

A humidity level favorable for weed cultivation in the vegetation period is 40-60%, though it can also be around 30 or 80%, which is obviously less desirable. With low humidity, you should bet on heat-resistant and stress-resistant weed varieties. However, it is worth remembering that during the flowering period a humidity level of 30-50% is considered the norm since it significantly lowers the likelihood of mold infection.

Many people wonder how to start growing marijuana in a high humidity location. If the humidity level cannot be lower than 65%, then you should install a plant blowing fan inside the grow box (a regular household fan will do). It will circulate air and remove excess moisture. You will also need to regularly prune those parts of the plant that interfere with the penetration of air into the depth of your plantation.

How to Neutralize Smell When You Grow Marijuana

How to grow good marijuana. Neutralize Smell

Not every guide on how to grow marijuana in your room mentions such an important part of weed cultivation as smell. During the flowering period, marijuana begins to emit a rich aroma that easily penetrates outside a house or apartment. The best way to handle it is to install carbon filters. It is able to completely absorb odor molecules and to release purified air.

A less effective option is to use odor neutralizers, which are sold as a gel or spray. They are suitable in cases where the grower cultivates a small number of plants (no more than 2). Please note that an odor neutralizer and an air freshener are not the same things at all. The former eliminates aroma at the molecular level, the latter simply lies on top of the existing smell, masking it. But this “disguise” does not work in the case of cannabis.

If you want to cultivate weed without the aforementioned methods of odor neutralization, then you should choose low-smelling cannabis strains for growing. During flowering, they emit a less pronounced aroma, which can often be felt only with close physical contact. Are you new to cannabis growing or an experienced marijuana grower?
